So I bought a Ping G30 driver off a reputable ebay seller, with 100% positive feedback, in the PGA trade in network and zero mentions of fake clubs in the thousands of purchases in the last 12 months.
However, I tested the G30 in my fitting, and when I hit it, it made a 'cracking' noise instead of a metallic ping noise. I just got my driver from ebay today and when I went to the range to hit it, it didn't really feel the same at all. It made a metallic pinging noise instead of more of a wooden crack like in my fitting. Is it possible it's a fake?
May 6, 2014 - Through serial numbers and QR code tags, PING tracks each piece. There are multiple points where the clubs are checked for proper specifications. But also left wondering why they don't have some sort of online club. For irons, the serial number is on the hosel. For woods, the location of the serial number varies by model but usually is found near the numbers indicating the degree of loft. Contact the Ping Consumer Relations Department by phone at (800) 474-6434 or through an online contact form.

The only differences I can think of is that the fitting was indoors using real balls (not range balls) and the shaft was much higher end. I still have 10 days to return the driver so I'm wondering what to do here. From my experience with various PING drivers, none of them make a 'ping' noise to me. They all make a louder deeper slap/crack noise.
The only product sold that makes the stereotypical 'ping' sound would be their PING putter sold many years back. From the pictures this looks legit. My Anser, G25, i25 and G30 all make generally the same loud crack noise when struck. If you do not like the sound, you could put a couple cotton balls inside the head, just watch the change in swing weight. Edit** Also, comparing this to the counterfeit club pictures the below, the main difference I notice are: • Turbulators are set back about 1/4 off the face - Yours are much closer like the authentic. • 'LOFT' Text is more italics leaning instead of squared off. Yours more leaning like the authentic.
• The weight on the back is more rounded off edges and more anodized/gritty looking instead of the shiny/sharp edged counterfeit one. Yours rounded and textured like the authentic.

Ping Clubs Ping has introduced many golf club innovations. The company was the first to design a club with the heel-toe weighting system, which displaces weight to both the heel and the toe of the golf club head.
This allows a more generous transfer of energy at the moment when the club strikes the ball so that off-center hits are more likely to stay straighter longer. Ping was also the first manufacturer to use a selective filtering design that minimized the vibration caused by hitting the ball.
Ping golf clubs are not often stolen or falsely replicated because of their designs and the methods by which the company protects the clubs. Most golf club manufacturers today use some form of serial numbers to identify their clubs, but the unique design of Ping clubs makes it less likely that they can be reproduced or recombined. Serial Numbers Ping uses its serial numbers for two primary purposes: replacing broken or lost clubs and identifying thefts or forgeries.
