It means that either the DVD Rom Navigation is failing, or you have a scratched disc. Most likely the laser is dirty (which can be cleaned with one of those disc / laser cleaners with the brushes on the CD), or you have a problem with the DVD Rom itself, which cannot easily be fixed without sending the unit to Alpine to get it repaired.

The only solution I could find was to look for an auto wrecker that had an identical DVD Rom drive and then remove my old unit and replace it with the spare one.
